Dear colleagues and friends

On behalf of ECTRIMS and its Executive Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Vienna for the 37th Congress from 13 - 15 October 2021.

Some of you may remember that in 2004, the 20th ECTRIMS Congress took place in Vienna. In these past 17 years we witnessed enormous achievements in research for the understanding and clinical care of multiple sclerosis. The continuous expansion of our knowledge on all matters of multiple sclerosis has changed substantially the management of care for multiple sclerosis patients to a more personalized and holistic, but at the same time globally crosslinked approach.

Together with the local organising committee we have therefore prepared a programme, which will give special attention to the translation from most current neuropathological and immunopathogenetic insights to bodyfluid- and imaging-based biomarkers and, finally, to a more individualized treatment and care-giving in adult and pediatric patients with multiple sclerosis and related disorders. Moreover, these aspects will be embedded in a global view - for example, by a joint session of all regional -TRIMS organisations.

The programme will therefore offer Scientific, Hot Topic and Educational Sessions, Free Communications selected from abstracts, several Young Investigator Sessions, guided ePoster Sessions as well as Meet-the-Expert opportunities to engage interest of all participants, being clinicians or scientists, and to promote vivid and fruitful discussions.

We sincerely wish that the current pandemic with its even uncertainties regarding any activities next year will be under better control to allow safe travels and meetings soon again. Despite this wishful expectation the 37th ECTRIMS Congress in Vienna is planned as a hybrid meeting with an option of personal or virtual attendance. However, it has to be emphasized that Vienna in fall is highly attractive with its richness of historic and cultural heritage as well as culinary and coffee delights.

We look very forward to welcoming you in Vienna in October 2021!
